Dec. 2008 Jeremy Olson's note from the Shagya Forum:
Hello All and Merry Christmas!!!
Just a quick note to all of the Shagya enthusiasts on this list. I rode SA Belshazzar in the 75 mile division and he performed wonderfully!! We placed third overall out of 38 starters and this was his first time over 50 miles. Our ride time was 6 hours and 13 minutes and we were 5 minutes behind the two who raced for the win (1st place went to Danielle Kanavy). Zar looked awesome at the end and he was happy and healthy. We are very proud of him and he is ready to move up the ladder, watch for him to continue to be a good ambassador for the shagya breed in endurance.

Our friend Lisa Winburn rode SA Ireesh Tenor in the 50 mile division where she placed fourth out of 40 starters. Ireesh also recieved both High Vet Score and Best Condition!!!! Lisa has been riding for many years and has over 5000 endurance miles and she has never recieved BC. Lisa was so excited she was crying and shaking and Ellyn and I had chills, it was awesome and an awesome showing for the Shagya's.

We cannot thank Daunna Sellers enough for making this all possible, what a wonderful person and a dedicated Shagya lover. If you want an awesome endurance horse, give her a call. She has more that are of this caliber and ready to make you proud. On another note, even though he is not a Shagya. Ellyn rode another of our horses Berjo Smokey in the 100 mile division. She placed second in a field of 27 and her ride time was 8 hours and 49 minutes and she was 10 minutes behind Valerie Kanavy. Our horses had a great weekend and we could not be more proud of their performance.

MJL Olivia has had an awesome 2008 season in Endurance. She had 12 starts in rides 50 miles or greater, 11 completions, 10 top 10’s of which 8 were top 5’s including 2 wins. All season long she was eager to get on trail and give it her all. In her time off from Endurance, Olivia cross trained in dressage where she is schooling at level 3. The success that Olivia and I have achieved would not have been possible without trainer and riding coach, Elizabeth Payne. Olivia, Liz and I are already working towards continued success in 2009. Olivia-Brave and Strong and True!

Nov. 2008 Sun Arabs has SA Edashick, SA Belshazzar, and SA Ireesh Tenor working in endurance training with Jeremy Olson and Ellyn Rapp in FL. They took Zar (SA Belshazzar) to the "River Run Elevator" in Hahira, GA on Nov. 15th. He ran the 55 mile ride against 50 or more competitors and won it with Jeremy Olson riding. Tenor and Eda are lots younger than Zar so they are taking things a bit more slowly and doing CTRs. On Dec 20th Tenor and Zar will do their first FEI ride in FL in the Goethe St. Forest. no picture available

We went to the ride this past weekend (11/15) and had an awesome ride. There were 68 horses to start the 50 miles and Ellyn and I tied for first!! She rode Smokey and I rode Zar (SA Belshazzar). Both horses came through the ride AWESOME!!! Zar ate the entire time before, during and after. He did not lose a pound and looks excellent post the ride. Completely sound and healthy. The ulcer medicine must have worked as he was an eating machine. I am so proud of him, he is an awesome animal and he will be one of the best endurance horses in the country after this winter. He was not tired at all, his completion trot out was bright eyed and bushy tailed as was his BC trot out. I usually don't get hurt by weight for BC, but the 4th place horses rider tacked out at 239 compared to my 184 and he received BC. His horse looked pretty good as well and I only had 7 minutes on him. You (Daunna Seller) should be proud of your breeding program and we had a lot of comments on him from people. We are telling people about the horses and I hope to sell a few for you soon.

Nov. 2008 On Nov. 9th at the San-n-Tone Show, KY four very brave competitors, Shulah Greatwater, Cassie Ackley, Elisha Morehead, and Katy Meyer (groomed by Daunna Sellers) went to Shellbyville to endure the cold and show most of the day. See also the ASAV web site for more pictures of the Shagya halter class. Darlene Steven won 1st and 2nd with two Ghandi daughters, Isis and Thea. Bayram's son Red Cedar got 3rd, and SA Berone 4th. SA Julia won a blue ribbon or two over fences. Kathy Meyer and Elisha did a lead line class on Lil' Bill, a real live mustang from Nevada.

Oct. 2008 Lily Creek Stetson and his owner Brian Coss just finished 1st in the AERC Fort Valley ride in Virginia on 10/25/08. This was a 30 mile ride and only their second race . Brian stated that STETSON rated like a Pro and pulsed down very quickly. Apparently they have both found something they enjoy! STETSON is a son of SARVAR PFF x SONATA PFF. He has one son, LILY CREEK NOBELEST, owned by Michael Elias of Prescott, Va., 6 yrs. who has completed several rides, his first back to back 50, and will do his first 100 in 2009. ... read more ... no picture available

Oct. 2008 Elisha Moorehead and SA Julia - Dressage:
(
One day horse trial held in Paris, KY)
SA Julia’s debut in the eventing world was sensational, despite it having been about ten years since I was in a dressage arena. The quiet demeanor and wanting to please attitude of this wonderful Anglo Shagya cross, (Thoroughbred mare, Oak Island Jeeka , granddaughter of Ol" Bob Bauer, on the bottom and Allydar on the top, bred to Shagya stallion Bayram), definitely was a pleasant change from the last time I showed in the eventing world. Previously, I successfully showed a purebred Arabian gelding, SA Schedar.
Not having very much room to warm-up we entered the dressage arena for her first time ever with the Judge being under a lawn canopy and competed as if she had been doing it forever, if only I had remembered the test.
Again, with no warm-up whatsoever over fences we began our cross country course. The starter was kind enough to allow competitors to walk through the starting gate so as not to frighten our horse, Julie did not flinch. This mare is so willing she jumped all of the strange logs and railroad tie stacks with pumpkins and mums and upside down planters used for the flag holders with barely a ruffle, even feeling so good after a slight downhill fence to kick up her heels - I could hardly punish her for that.
Finally, in the afternoon we were beginning our stadium round. Now, we have gone over a few cross-rails at home, but to say the least our fences are neutral in color. These fences were gorgeous, rainbow colored, lavender and other various shades of purple, camouflaged, yellow, bright green, and bright white. Like a pro who had jumped a million rounds we finished on our dressage score and finished in third overall with a penalty score of 39, despite my goof during the test.
Thanks to the new Bluegrass Pony Club for putting on their “First Annual, Not So Very Scary Mini Trial”.

Aug. 2008 by Daunna Sellers: This weekend 4 of us from my barn went to a CTR and rode the Novice ride. My Jr. Cassie Ackley rode my SA Ferr Rona's Vega as she isn't ready to ride her own gelding outside of the arena. Vega is the one that has the red fly and ear protection. I grabbed SA Gienah a brood mare out of Darlene's old Bint Ghasla and Bayram. I greased up her girth area so we wouldn't get girth galls since no one has been on her in a year, and off we went. Ride pulse was 44. She came in at 43. All of Bayram's get seem to be showing that the pulse drops like a rock. I really didn't expect it from this mare. It was really hot and humid. Elisha is on SA Julia.
